Rapport Annuel 2018 2019
Press Release

Gatineau, June 15, 2019 – Last Thursday, at the Brylee Farm in Thurso the Société d’aide au développement de la collectivité (SADC) de Papineau held its annual general assembly. The organization then invited the entire entrepreneurial environment of the Collines-de-l’Outaouais RCM and the Papineau RCM to an Entrepreneurs BBQ. This was a unique networking opportunity where approximately 75 business and economic development stakeholders came together to boost trade between the two neighbouring RCMs.

At its annual general assembly, the SADC team presented its directors and partners with the organization’s 2018-2019 activities and financial results.

Key figures for 2017-2018:

  • $1.9 million: the amount of financing to rural businesses from SADC
  • 27: the number of businesses that received loans from SADC this year
  • $3.6 million: the number of total investments made in the territory in which SADC contributed
  • 73: the number of jobs created and maintained in the territory thanks to SADC financing
  • $34.6 million: the total amount invested by SADC in the territory since 1985
  • 24: number of local development projects initiated by our team, resulting in over 2320 hours of support

New Support Services Offered Driven by Current Issues

In response to our 2017 study titled “Portrait and Needs of Entrepreneurs,” revealing that in the next five years 34% of entrepreneurs in our territory want to leave their business, and 25% of entrepreneurs plan on closing theirs permanently, it was crucial that our organization compensate for the lack of support in the sale and purchase of these companies. In conjunction with existing projects, like INDEX from Centre de transfert des entreprises du Québec (CTEQ) and ARTERRE, and the significant support from our partner the Fédération des caisses Desjardins du Québec, we are launching a new targeted and innovative service that will provide the necessary support and tools to ensure the sustainability of our companies.

“The red flags have been raised for a number of years now, the vitality of our communities is threatened if we do not mobilize to prepare the transfers and ensure the sustainability of our small businesses. The message we hear from our entrepreneurs is that they need help identifying their successors. That is why we are working with other SADCs in Quebec to develop a truly specific support for our rural businesses. The details of this new offer will be announced in the coming weeks, “explains Mélissa Bergeron, General Manager of the Papineau-Collines SADC.
